Bad weather in Vienna= Visit a museum time, and then the cine...
Vienna has been consumed by torrential and frequent rain this week. Today it just did not stop! So, I took myself to the Wien Museum and had a lovely time looking at paintings and artefacts chanelling the Vienna of times gone by.
I was also captivated by the current exhibition- photographs taken of Vienna by writter Gerhard Roth over the last 20 years. In his pictoral diary of the city he encapsulates behind the scenes at the Imperial Court Archives, the Gugging House of Artists, the Sigmund Freud Museum, the Traiskirchen Refugee Camp and most intrigingly The Tower of Fools- where there are kept specimens in jars of babies born as cyclops, siamese and mermaids (with joined legs). Quite disturbing.
The museum also holds works by Gustav Klimt (see above).
I rounded off the weekend with a trip to the gorgeously old fashioned Burg Kino on the Openring, to see Robin Hood; the legend of whom of course originates in NOTTINGHAM!

Falling irrevocably and unconditionally in love................... with VIENNA!!!
During my first 6 weeks in Vienna before Easter I was quite homesick, however on my return I have begun to fall in love with the place!!! I have met some amazing amazing girls here and with my friend Dorothy coming to stay 29th April- 3rd May and the sun shining many fun times have been had this past week!
29th April, Dorothy arrives and I immediately acquaint her with Viennese cafe life with a coffee and cake at the airport. That evening we head to the MuseumsQuartier (MQ) where an open air concert kicked off the summer season for the area. We drank beer at the arsch bar, and sat in the middle of the square amongst hundreds of other revellers.

Standing in front of Leopold Mozarts memorial, Stadtpark.
I keep spotting the lady with the amazing red hair around town. These two make a super cool couple!
...led to dancing to a dj-set at Brut...
..... led to the stealing of the promotional stickers for the night (I love New Work)....
Looking highly hungover on the train! And then much needed coffees with cream at the Slovak pub on arrival!

That evening we head to the MuseumsQuartier (MQ) where an open air concert kicked off the summer season for the area. We drank beer at the arsch bar, and sat in the middle of the square amongst hundreds of other revellers.
The arsch/ rectum bar, which is in the shape of an actual rectum, provided some entertainment. MQ beers led us onto a hidden bar just off the Mariahilferstrasse and then another hidden bar with things hanging from the ceiling which moved with the beat of the base.... quite a surreal experience if you lay back and watch!
Sight seeing wise I showed Dorothy around the Rathaus area, Stephansdom, Stadtpark and Schonbrunn.
We also went to the Pruckel (my fav cafe here), and Centimetre for schnitzel... of course!
Saturday 1st May saw us frequenting the Flohmarkt by day, and Brut bar by evening.
Bargain buys this week included a black fringed jacket for 4 euros and an amazing brown straw hat (seen in pics throughout) for 5 euros.

The next day, Doz and I battled our hangovers and day tripped over to Bratislava:
I saw this poster for a festival in Slovakia in July, there's loads of amazing bands such as the xx and metronomy... fingers crossed ill be going with Anna!!
We hotfooted it around the castle, then down to the main square, and managed to fit in some traditional food at the slovak pub before heading back to Vienna for a good nights sleep!
